Kazue Kato speaking
« on: December 11, 2012, 11:44:30 PM »
I figured we should have a thread for everything the mangaka has to say about this series. :)

First of all, here's her website/blog, which has lots of funny pics on it (and a bunch of other stuff that I can't read):
http://katoukikaku.jugem.jp/

And then there's the interviews she has done:
1) http://www.manga-news.com/index.php/actus/2010/07/30/Interview-Kazue-Kato

(English translation:

2) http://www.animenewsnetwork.com.au/interview/2011-04-08/interview-blue-exorcist-mangaka-kazue-kato

(Has the first one been published in English? Else I can write a translation.)

She's also mentioned in this interview about the anime:

Though I kinda hope that guy was just being polite...

I do think she had a lot of artistic input on the series. She did all the designs after all. But as the producer mentioned, Kazue is fond of color choices that are impossible to transition to the screen. That's probably why Yukio's Paladin jacket turned into that horrible forest green from a gray-blue-green sheen in her original work.

Doesn't sound like the story was under her direction.

I'm surprised no-one is interested in the interview.

I vaguely remember discussing them somewhere... in the anime section maybe?

^ The second one has been discussed, but the first one doesn't even exist in English, as far as I know.

Not like it contains crucial information or anything. It's mostly about her past, her influences, favourite manga and the like.

I finally got around translating that interview. Here's the English version:

That took me almost three hours, but I think it's pretty decent. ;D

And it's still plenty relevant despite being three years old.
