Well, I guess the speculation about Rin faking being taken over by his aggressive side turned out to be false.

I feel like Rin was somewhere in the middle of human mindset and demon mindset in the first half of the chapter. He didn't really talk like demon Rin.

I guess in the end Rin can separate Satan with Yukio after he gets the sword from Koneko? But it seems too early to solve Yukio's problem now.

i wanted to carry the heavy load of this chapter if it was to help yukio. this is the first time i got scared of rin. like the fact he was so fucking murderous and full blown ass top tier demonic scared the living heck out of me. this was the only time i took demon!rin seriously. kato. you've done your part. take a bow. you are one superior mangaka. as for the main reason as to why im hurting is yukio.  YUKIO. i have said this so many times that i love you and maybe that's why i really am hurting because the moment he said thankyou to rin .... for finally killing him.... hits so close to home. that was painful. it was personal in a way. and so heart wrenching. it was the saddest thing i have seen on yukio. im at a loss for words. it was like i was losing my own child and im like... i can't even describe it except it was all shades painful, remorseful and gut wrenching. i wanna die. Yukio didn't say "My life no longer has any value."
Yukio said "mou (by now/anymore/no longer) boku (me/I) ni (to) ikiru (live) kachi (value/worth/merit) ha (*subject marker*) nai (no/nothing/none)" in other words "To me, there is no worth living anymore."
It's life that has no worth in Yukio's eyes. It's not that Yukio thinks that his life has no worth.
In japanese, "My life no longer has any value." would be "boku no inochi mou kachi ha nai."

I feel like Rin was somewhere in the middle of human mindset and demon mindset in the first half of the chapter. He didn't really talk like demon Rin.
Actually, demon rin speaks very differently from rin, and even though the text font was rin's usual font and not demon rin's usual font, it was definitely demon rin's way of speaking. Yukio has more problems than just Satan being in his eye. I'd like to start seeing him trying to deal with his other issues. I think we have about seen enough of him trying to get Satan out of his eye, imo. - _-

Yeah, I can see what you mean, though I get where it comes from. Colloquially the two are close in English. "Life" can both mean how someone is living and the actual mortal existence, e.g. "life happens" as a phrase.

My greater bugbear was the translation that became "you have a chip on your shoulder", which misses that Rin was just repeating the only thing he understood from Yukio's earlier diatribe (translated earlier as "don't look down on me" / "I get it, you don't want to be looked down on"). It made it confusing why Yukio got enraged. After all this, all that Rin figures out from dealing with him was that one, single line. As if Yukio's done all this just because he doesn't like playing the second banana.

Then again, demon Rin was pretty on-the-money with what he was saying. Does Yukio want to die or to win? He doesn't even know. He's stuck on sacrificing his life in the exact same way as Shiro. Yukio's given up on being stronger than Rin, because it's just not possible. As demon Rin says, no matter how hard Yukio works and complains, he can never beat him.

Yukio has more problems than just Satan being in his eye. I'd like to start seeing him trying to deal with his other issues. I think we have about seen enough of him trying to get Satan out of his eye, imo. - _-

I too am a little tired of Satan being in Yukio's eye. But I think that'll happen soon. This arc looks like it'll resolve with Satan getting removed, although he could soon potentially incarnate in the host body that Drac is bringing over. I suspect Yukio will stay an antagonist, given he has not really dealt with his problems yet. Toudou's foreshadowing that Yukio will "understand" when he's "honest" has yet to pass, and so far Toudou has been the best predictor of Yukio's arc.

Oh, I didn't see that. I didn't read the english version completely. I just skimmed through it.
Yeah. That one is terribly mistranslated. Rin really is saying "I got one thing. It's that you don't want to be looked down on."
I don't know how they got from that to "you've got a huge chip on your shoulder." *shrug*

But Yukio seems to believe that he wins if he gets Rin to kill him. So it makes some sense, no? To win is to achieve one's goal.

Also... I guess the translation is off there too... Though it's not that big of a problem...
In the English version, Demon Rin says "Do you even know ... whether you want to win or die? You never make any sense!"
In the Japanese version, Demon Rin says "Jibun ((your)self) de (with) wakatteru (understand) ka (*question marker*)? Kachitai (want to win) dano (*marker of enumeration of an incomplete list of things* [slightly outdated. the more contemporary way of saying it is "toka" or "yara"]) korose (kill *imperative form*) dano (*marker of enumeration of an incomplete list of things*). Itteru (saying) koto (thing(s)) mechakucha (mess/nonsense/awful/terrible... [is often used simply for emphasis]) de (with) wake (reason(s)) wakannei (don't understand) yo (for your information)." So in other words "Do (you) understand (your)self? (When you say) "(I) want to win" and "kill (me)" and so on... The things (you) are saying, (I) don't understand the reason(s) at all, you know."

By the way, it's even less important, but they also forgot to type in one of Koneko's line. He said "That voice..." before saying "Is it Satan's!?". But they just wrote "Is that Satan!?" in the second bubble and left the first one blank...

Yukio has more problems than just Satan being in his eye. I'd like to start seeing him trying to deal with his other issues. I think we have about seen enough of him trying to get Satan out of his eye, imo. - _-

This fight is just building up to the climax, Yukio seems quite docile, like not trying to fight back in any case, just taking all the punches. Demon!Rin no longer has distinctive speech pattern so I take that some kind of 'integration' is happening with his bipolarity. I am not sure but this is what I feel with Rin now, some kind of 'spiritual/demonic' mental disorder.

But what really is reinforced is Rin's belief in taking Yukio as a wimp. Will he really say this to any of his human/lesser powerful friends? For most part when a protagonist is being built, he is mostly reactive but here for the first time I feel Rin is driving the narrative, pushing his 'politically incorrect' diatribe in boldface while changing from protector to Yukio's abuser. And Satan is enjoying Yukio as a punching bag, egging Rin's anger. And Yukio for all the protection has scratches on his face from broken glass. Perhaps Satan has to be willful in protecting Yukio? Not all injuries can be shielded or taken care of, perhaps what keeps him alive is more important for Satan.

Shima is given the task to pull Yukio out of the fight, so I wonder if he will give the escape route for Illuminati after Lightning arrives. Considering Koneko is still with the sword, it will be used sometime during this fight, to focus Rin's power as he has relatively weaker control with size and intensity. Anyways, Rin is looking increasingly like young Satan did, kind of understand why Satan thought he took after him and markedly different from when he is in control of himself.

A little note, about Yukio's eyes, they look like a few people I had known just before they finally took their leave, did the deed and all. So he is indeed very suicidal and kudos to Ms.Katoh for bringing that look out. Calling for help is so passe, he just wants it done pronto, I truly believe he would be very thankful to Rin for it. Even if he says it for the world and all, it is very selfish.

Rin is good at provoking Yukio's anger though, until he prodded, Satan was just watching, the moment he talked about Yukio not wanting to be looked down upon, Satan got strong enough to retaliate. Both Rin and Yukio don't take well to being challanged, anger is first reaction. Rin loses to his demonic urge, Yukio has Satan take over. A little note from before about Yukio's anger was that it is more dangerous than Rin's. Mephisto had Shima face him during those times and I really want to know if Shima came to uncover Yukio's Satan eye during such times.

I remember, that Yukio had frequent blank spells, gaps in his memory, I wonder if he is in control of himself during such times. Last chapter also had his memory flashback in which he was remembering the damage to ship and murder spree he did as Satan's power got away I guess. He is obviously worried of uncertainty and feeling of losing control over himself when the price is similar to Blue Night maybe worse and Mephisto has no calculation of this time-space.

Thanks to @chinonamida for English translation, it really changes a lot of comprehension. I appreciate your and other contributors' early translated panels for the manga, still prefer them over the regular version. To add, the theories over the running period of the comics are also very insightful.

It's not something you'd say to others in normal daily life, but now they're already fighting, so the situation is not normal. And it's not about raw power. It's more about mental strength. Rin wouldn't regard Bon as a wimp because Bon seems to have a tough mindset, despite Bon's raw power might be weaker than Yukio.

I feel like Rin was somewhere in the middle of human mindset and demon mindset in the first half of the chapter. He didn't really talk like demon Rin.

But since we saw rin regain control, that means it really was demon rin.
He definitely was not the usual human Rin that we are familiar with, but he didn't sound like the demon Rin recently introduced either. The "want to die or want to to win" argument isn't like something demon Rin would be interested of.

Rin was just repeating the only thing he understood from Yukio's earlier diatribe (translated earlier as "don't look down on me" / "I get it, you don't want to be looked down on"). It made it confusing why Yukio got enraged. After all this, all that Rin figures out from dealing with him was that one, single line. I think the most severe (if not the only) issue of Yukio is that he refuse to accept help from others. If he changes mind, they can try to find solutions to other problems. I think that's why Rin has that conclusion in chapter 121.

Yukio has more problems than just Satan being in his eye. I'd like to start seeing him trying to deal with his other issues. I think we have about seen enough of him trying to get Satan out of his eye, imo. - _-

What I mean is, these words are abnormal, we don't say that to people we want to keep being cordial with, whatsoever one's private grudges or thoughts are. Rin and add Shura to that, have been saying these words to Yukio since he was a child. Looking down on him is a habit they had even while talking casually. Implying Yukio is weak again, angry!Rin is 'reinforcing' an idea. Also saying them as parting words just before he gets to kill Yukio, adds an echo to a guy prepping to 'end a life that has no value now'.

This is definitely about strength,
-"I'm gonna show you WHAT IT MEANS TO BE TRULY STRONG!"
-"Is this how Satan protects you? It doesn't seem like much to be proud of FOUR EYES!!!!"
-"You fuss and fret and gripe and whine, But No Matter What You Do In The End you still CAN'T BEAT ME!"

In (human)Rin's mind, Yukio threw away his family for power. Does he still not know that Yukio was eliminating Illuminati, the Satan bringer? That the only thing left was gouging his eye to the bitter end? It happened right in front of Rin. But he seems still set to that point when Yukio turned his back some five days ago. Perhaps Rin feels that Yukio is abandoning him. He was still dealing with loss a few moments ago, saw terrible things, felt his life should have ended. Yukio is now his only 'support'. This may have lead to him becoming unstable. He is definitely not the person to judge anybody mentally. Rin has already proven that he doesn't know Yukio well. 'You are strong', he realizes twice but without really believing it and is shocked that Yukio could get the better of him. So he wanted to show 'real power'. Denial, egotism or contempt? What is underscored is that 'manipulation-expert' Yukio triggered Rin with a jab about 'losing'.

This is the first time Rin has taken off his caring facade and is putting his real 'human' frustration out there. He isn't a 'Good GuyTM', his reasons to help are not altruistic.  He always went above and beyond to help his friends but it also allowed to hide his own problems, those he has always tried to deal with on his own. These fights also gave him an opportunity to go reckless and free his anger and earn his sense of worth. Because he really can't care, for example Bon, he supports even if he doesn't understand, he has trouble 'empathizing' with others, except perhaps Shiemi. Another is when Shima betrayed and lead to Izumo's capture, he couldn't understand why Bon and Izumo remained skeptical of him afterwards, how Izumo felt hurt and couldn't forgive. He is like a gale of suppressed emotions and doesn't have depth to set aside his own pain, fear and anger. Yukio did ask him for help and got denied because Rin was scared to face the past. This fight is also part of his own growth, facing himself and confronting his true nature and 'not give in'. This is what is leading to the climax of this arc. BTW, Yukio is indeed weak for a demon spawn.

About your idea, both Bon and Yukio have a maturity that comes with responsibility. They can have a showdown to prove it out, really want to see it considering they worked together on ballistics and Bon was the one who Yukio sees eye to eye, no pun intended.
