Gender of the fans

Given that the shonen genre is aimed at young males, I thought it'd be interesting to see if Western audiences reflect this. For the record I'm a straight female.

According the to site statistics, we have a Male to Female Ratio of 1:1.4.

Not everyone is listed there though, so it's possible that the real number is a bit different. Still, I know we have a lot of girls.

I'd have to say it's probably pretty even, other than the fact that I've noticed Females have a habit of getting "more into a series" I guess is what you'd call it. Such as doing fanwork and stuff.

It could also just be the whole "birds of a feather flock together" concept and I somehow just meet more females into it.

Even with my other main fandoms that are known as "Where are all the girls" (mlp and furries) I... still have met more girls than guys. <.<
I mostly just quietly stalk things. Don't mind me.

I agree. I actually mainly tend to assume people online are female these days because I've noticed that a lot.

And I'm also female~
I've always had a liking for things aimed at guy audiences :>

I'm female too. AnE is a series that appeals to fangirls, shipping, and all of that nice stuff. It usually takes me a few minutes to remember that it's shonen and not some series on the border between the demographics. Despite all the fighting and adventures too! I'm suprised that the forum gender ratio here is only 1:1.4.

Wikke and moonlandian are girls?!?!?!?!

You didn't know?

Earthforge and Paradox are girls too, which means the Top 5 posters are all female. I hadn't noticed that before.

I think Chino is the most notable male among us.

Well, luckily, I'm not being ambiguous with my gender.

... I feel like one of the very few people on here who can't be mistaken for the opposite gender. That's freakin' awkward.

Then again, I don't really have time to post around here a lot anymore, in my current situation, so I'm probably, like, invisible to the new guys anyways.

Also, I guess the only one I ever had had my doubts about was earthforge. Like, even back on mangafox. Seriously.

And look at that ratio, will you.
