^Yeah that sounds like it takes some getting used to. : / I guess I got used to things like Japanese not having spaces between words, though...it probably just takes practice. Lots of practice XD

Also, on a side note, to anyone who is learning/knows spoken AND written Japanese, how did you learn it? Did you teach yourself, or learn it through classes/a relative/some other method? It looks so tricky to learn kanji and furigana in particular, I can't fathom how people go about learning it >.<

I learned from a mix of classes and self-study. I took one Japanese class in high school and a few university classes, and there was a two-year gap between them where I learned most of the kanji on my own. Tried to do it all in one semester by picking 100 kanji completely at random from my dictionary every week and making flashcards of them XD It worked pretty well, but I forgot a ton of them if I didn't practice them constantly, and there wasn't enough time to practice 2000 flashcards constantly.

If I was going to do it again, I'd go a little slower and add in more reading practice with books/websites/manga/song lyrics etc. so that I could get a better idea of how they're all used in real life. I always remembered kanji better when I could associate them with a favorite character or something. I'd also try to do a better job of learning simple ones first and complicated ones later, since the complicated ones are usually made out of a bunch of simple ones.

It's also important not to despair at how many kanji there are. Learning 2000 kanji sounds terrifying, but learning a few kanji is actually really fun ("The 'nin' in 'ninja' is 'blade' plus 'heart'?! How can something BE that cool?") and as long as you keep doing that they'll add up. And the more you know, the easier it is to learn new ones because you'll recognize parts of them.

For kana, it helps to write out stuff like character names and song lyrics, and to avoid romanizing stuff so you force yourself to read it in kana every time.

Basically, have fun and don't worry about how little you know (it keeps you from trying). Remember that every manga chapter (or whatever) has SOMETHING you can figure out, even if it's just someone shouting someone else's name.

...That was kind of long and disorganized, but I hope it helps some : )

Ah making mnemonics like that are so fun to do!! I find it's the best way to learn a kanji :D

Speaking about kanji... isn't this kinda cool?

Does anyone know what language this is? I'm fairly certain it's a fantasy language, but I'm not sure if the singer made it themselves or if it's from something...
I'll keep the Japanese translation beside each.

Ana sehan, ana sehan,(耳をすませ、耳をすませ、)
ana sehan, diu Liot.(耳をすませ、彼らの歌に)
Farn Sēla, farn Sēla,(遠い魂よ、遠い魂よ、)
ir fuole elienti.(嘆いているのか)
Lūte ēra, lūte ēra,(賞贊を、賞贊を、)
lūte ēra, Rītāri Trewa(賞贊を、忠義の騎士に)
Ruo fida, ruo fida,(呼んでいる、呼んでいる、)
bluot faro Krōne.(血に染められた王冠が)

There was also:
鋼の忠誠  as Treue
少女騎士  as Ssidien
and
王冠 as Krone

I'm thinking only the singer and a few other people know this language - possibly it being only a hundred words or something long. But thought I'd see if anyone could identify it just in case.

The original song:

(that language part starts at 4:30)

I have no idea what language that is (my guess is Fantasy), but I can tell you that the artist of the picture is Suzunosuke.

I'm quite positive it's fantasy as well, but I like this fantasy language a lot D: I wanna learn about it xD

Though if I take some time I might be able to figure out a few words from that...shfasf

Thanks for the artist's name though! *goes to look for more of his work*

It's not a book series if that's what you mean.
It's just from the song (or songs. I can't tell in the other ones other than names. Like in ''Bernstein no Oukan - Die Krone von Bernstein'' the sixth track, Jouran no Jouso is a drama.

I'm not sure if AYUTRICA (or Eclipseed as they are now) make each album it's own story or if all the stories are connected. This song obviously has connection to Bernstein album (you see Krone in one of the titles and you hear the names in the drama)...

It's really hard to say though because I can barely find the lyrics for these songs.

Umm....

Well you see, the song I posted on the bottom of the post there - that's where that other language piece comes from.

The band is AYUTRICA, now called Eclipseed from what I can tell on the website.

The songs evolve around some sort of story. I tried a quick translation of that that song I posted (黒曜石の歌-Das Obsidianenlied- // Song of Obsidian) so I have an outline for that song at least.
Something about being stuck in fortress and then this whole battle sequence and talk about knights and stuff like that. And Ssidien is described as jet-black, so I'm guessing the girl on the picture is Ssdidien due to her hair. And you'll see her and those two guys on the Bernstein cover.
(In Irish you are actually called ''black'', ''red'', ''brown'' etc based on your hair colour, not skin colour, just so you didn't understand my reasoning. Though you probably did...)

Now, it seems that the story extends to the other song albums, but I can't tell entirely because the lyrics are hard to find. (Which kills me. I love music like this...Though the lyrics have a lot of exception ways to read the kanji and I think some are archaic o.e)

Yeah....*desperately hoping someone else will help me*

Here's the website for Eclipseed/ AYUTRICA...

Well, Rhapsody of Fire does albums that tell epic stories (sometimes a story extends for several albums with each album being a chapter).

But I have never heard of a band making up their own language to tell a story...

Ooooh! I'll need to check them out!!

Most of the time their songs are in Japanese - little bit of English.

*shrugs* It's possible. I want to learn it nonetheless. I kind of feel like in this fantasy language adjectives come after the noun...

It sounds like some sort of Nordic Language... or Germanic... or English they turned into katakana and then romanized the altered pronunciation...

Maybe if we had the English version of the Japanese translation.

Well, if you want to learn a fantasy language you could try Kajiuran. Kalafina's songs are in the same genre as AYUTRICA too.
