On a different note, I love how Satan and Lucifer are two different people in the manga. Because originally Satan was lucifer before he got kicked out and his name means "morning star" does this remind anyone of the illuminati symbol?

All of the ba'al, with the exception of Amaimon/Amaymon (maybe him too, he's labeled as a prince of hell and a cardinal demon along with Egyn who is associated with Azazel), have been referred to as Satan.

Well of course, for the Baa'l that would be true. But I was kinda looking from an orthodox Christian view - Katou had gone and thrown in multiple religions and made it interesting, point is I'm just glad that she made Satan AND Lucifer from an orthodox perspective.

I don't know if she's actually using Christianity as a base. Most of it is Judaic lore which Christianity is based off of. From what I understand, Christianity recognizes the Old Testament but follows the New Testament.

They still grew up in a monastery even though it's becoming clear that all the monks and Fujimoto were there more as some kind of witness protection program and probably didn't have real divinity school training.

Not true. The whole basis of religion is that the demons taught humans how to fight demons, so religion exists because they put it there. They learned the bible along with scriptures of other religions. Bon playing Lightning’s card game is testament to that. Again, the Japanese use Christianity loosely and are not intrisically devout as westerners can get. This is not to say that they aren’t devout of their own beliefs. You can clearly see how they think by considering the common theme that another world of spirits exist in multiple series. Persona, Noragami, Rinne, FFXIV, etc. I’ve read manga and end up thinking after the first chapter, “Just like Blue Exorcist.” Now whether the characters themselves are religious? She has stated that it takes will, conviction, and concentration to use Aria spells/verses. That sounds like faith to me.

I guess this raises the question of what is the purpose of having a physical church and services and the origin of the Bible in this world if there's no God and/or Jesus figure. If this while thing is just based on fighting demons then those seem pretty superfluous.

^ Not everyone can see demons. There might not be a god in the way we think in real life but that doesn't mean religions don't exist in BE; humans just don't know that their god was probably a demon having fun (like Mephisto also being Loki etc.).

Correct. It’s also been stated that Amaimon has been worshipped as a nature god by some cultures. Ucchusma also said that all the labels are one and the same. Demon, god, angel, wisdom king, etc. Kuro is a guardian spirit but classified as a demon.

...But now people are beginning to see. Muahaha. /insert smug Mephisto here.
Besides stopping Lucifer, I think this is one of his main goals.

Why is religion needed? For me, this is an absolutely useless exercise, because I am a very big skeptic when it comes to believing in something or someone. The same can be said about psychics. Honestly, I doubt that are fortune tellers real. No person can predict the future, but a psychic can analyze your actions and draw some conclusions based on them, giving you advice on future decisions.
