Well, don't they know that he's a demon? I am certain the higher ups know who Mephisto REALLY is.

Also, why would Mephisto sacrifice himself to save Rin? We don't even know what he's gonna do, we don't even know if he's using Rin for evil or good reasons. Yes, we can tell Mr. Pheles has reasons to keep Rin alive, but apart from that, we don't know what for. It certainly isn't brotherly love.

^ Who said anything about Mephisto sacrificing himself? I was just pointing out that it feels different looking at the trial while knowing that the Order couldn't do much about Mephisto even if they wanted to.

Then again, I guess that explains why he was so cheery.

I wonder if the artificial gate thingy was inspired by the anime, or the other way around.

Also, we finally have an answer to the question if normal people can see Rin's tail.

^ I hope it's the other way around. Somehow I'm not too fond of the idea that Kazue got inspired by the anime. Do you think she was the one to design Amaimon's power up version, or did she just borrow the idea?

That's inconclusive, since there was an incident that caused a large number of students to start seeing demons. That's what Godai'in's case is all about.

Godaiin is the only one there who can see it (and he didn't even tell Rin), that's probably why Rin decided to keep it out after the incident. Hiding the tail had a point only in the cram school before people with mashou got to know that he's a demon.

Inconclusive? There's, like, 50 people standing there, and no-one but Godaiin is freaking out about one of their fellow students having a very visible and obviously non-human tail. I think it's quite clear that normal people can't see it.
