But studying abroad in college is MUCH more common, and that's a crazy agr gap. If it's HS/MS, it makes me wonder if it's a Liu thing (I'm assuming the family is quite rich.)

If it's Uni, I already have a headcanon that John said 'screw you guys and your exorcism, I'm becoming a lawyer/fashion designer/etc,' and then the grandfather says YOU ARE NO LONGER WELCOME HERE.

I have  friend I went to elementary school with who has a gap like that with her sister... but you are right it's not common, maybe if they were more brothers then it would be more possible for the gap to be between the eldest and the youngest.

As for the leaving the clan part, I don't know, he sounds as if he were in good terms with Liu, the short story is theoretically about him requesting Liu to buy him a souvenir while he visits Japan.

Well, Cheng-Long might be more lenient. He seems that way. Plus, he was apparently put through some harsh training himself so he might want what's best for his brother.

John just doesn't seem...exorcist-y...

I actually hope there is something in the tale explaining why John and not a Chinese name... or maybe John isn't the real name. You know, when Japanese, Korean and Chinese move to other countries they sometimes take a first name from said country to avoid romanisation complications and only retain the surname for paper reasons.

That is what I was thinking as well. I think the Aerith and Bob is too strong here, and careless on the part of the creators

^Just makes me to wonder if they are full brothers? They may have different parents, like Satan's sons adress each other "brother/little brother" even for example Rin has different mother...

Interviews reveal that Cheng-Long actually was meant to have a bigger role, at least in terms of appearances. For one, there was a “past episode” between him and Usamaro in the storyboard. For another, he was meant to be a growth factor for Yukio. Both were slashed due to the constraints of the film, and because Yukio and Cheng-Long were restricted from having a more active role (presumably so they wouldn’t overshadow Rin and Usamaro). The novelization was cited as a good place to put all this, so I imagine they did cram these extraneous details into there.

I agree that Cheng-Long was severely underused, more so because he’s a character native to the film alone. At the same time, it’s understandable why they made the decisions they did. At least he got plenty of spotlight in the short story!

Huh.

Well if they make a second movie I demand Liu be in it. And with better demon designs. Ungeneric storyline I'd love, but you can only hope for so much sometimes.

Thanks Archer for the postings!

Ofc. He must be used more! Unless it's a movie of the Kyoto Arc...which I would also love.

Ugh I'd love that also, but I think that arc really deserves a larger time-frame.

Makes sense, but the first part would probably mainly be build up that a lot of people would be like, What the hell? Where's my action?
And we're all sitting here on the forum squealing, and dying for part 2.

*sigh* But I'd rather rebooted anime :P

^I would love rebooted anime as well, I don't think that only a movie will make me satisfied. The kyoto arc deserved an anime.

If the Kyoto Arc were a movie, it would start with the incident that revealed Todou as a traitor and end with the revival of the IK, then the second movie would cover all the action until the IK is defeated.

But I would prefer if the series returned with HQ OVAs like Hellsing did.
